A major initiative of the Partnership for
Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans
(PISCO) is to provide accurate scientific information about
nearshore ecosystems to policy makers, resource managers,
the media, undergraduate and graduate students, and the
public.
Toward this goal, PISCO engages in the following activities:
PISCO scientists meet with policy makers, state and federal
agencies, and non-governmental organizations to discuss and
provide scientific guidance regarding ocean policy, management,
and conservation issues.
PISCO scientists and outreach personnel provide information
about coastal ecosystems to reporters for newspapers, magazines,
and television.
PISCO trains graduate and undergraduate students in marine
scientific research.
PISCO plans special forums and classes to identify emerging
scientific issues, share new findings with diverse audiences,
and provide a focal point for marine conservation science along
the U.S. West Coast.
